Paramount To Revamp Beverly Hills Cop?!

We just discovered from a very reliable source that among the ashes of Paramount Studios dropping the new film Beverly Hills Cop 4 from production status, we hear that there have been talks for them to reboot the franchise.

We discovered that Director Brett Ratner, who was on board to film Beverly Hills Cop 4 might be the man that Paramount will bring back to start the franchise all over again.

We also hear that if the franchise IS revamped, Paramount has a very short list of actors who they intend to play the new Axel Foley, and right now Brandon T. Jackson is among the very few who they like.

How did this develop you ask? Well, it seems that among the musical chairs that have been played over at Paramount the last couple of months, the new execs in charge of development and production did not like the negotiations that have been moving along with Eddie Murphy for Beverly Hills Cop 4. It turns out that now because of this the film is dead in the water. This was a result of negotiations between the studio and Murphy’s management, and it soured because Murphy’s demands were too high and Paramount felt that Murphy hasn’t opened up a number one film in years to command his salary ( which also includes several points on the gross and a percentage of the DVD sales). Paramount wanted Murphy to take a pay cut and after Murphy declined, the result was the new talks of revamping Beverly Hills Cop while Ratner is still potentially interested.

As we stated, Jackson is the studio favorite and their potential lead for the film, but we hear that this film is still in the extremely early stages and no offer has been made to anyone, nor has the script even been written.

Several points do arise from this story, such as Eddie Murphy doing the recent Press junket for Shrek 4 mentioning to several news outlets that he is coming back to the stage. Is this a move for Murphy to bring his comedic awareness back to the masses and to convince the studio that once that is done that he is still relevant? If you recall, when Murphy was the number 1 box office draw, he was also the number 1 comedian in the country on tour and breaking records for attendance. This move would make sense.

Up next for Murphy; we hear that a new script has been written and delivered for Nutty Professor 3, but there is still several other things to happen before the project is green lit for a production start date. Not to mention Murphy stated that he is preparing to hit the stage and make a comeback.

Brandon T. Jackson is currently in Atlanta filming Big Momma’s House 3 titled Big Momma’s: Like Father Like Son with Martin Lawrence, and he is getting offers for several other films, none of which can be confirmed yet.

More on this story as it develops.

Kevin Hart Stars In New Modern Day Version Of The Odd Couple!

We just discovered that a network is going to remake the infamous show of yesteryear The Odd Couple!

In case you are unfamiliar with The Odd Couple, it was originally a 1965 Broadway play by Neil Simon, which was followed by a successful film and television series, as well as other derivative works and spin offs, many featuring one or more of the same actors. The plot is about two mismatched roommates, one neat and uptight, the other more easygoing.

The show is about the two characters, one named Felix Ungar, who is a neurotic, neat freak newswriter (photographer in the television series), is thrown out by his wife, and moves in with his friend Oscar Madison, a messy sportswriter. In its original Broadway run, Ungar was played by Art Carney and Madison by Walter Matthau. Matthau was later replaced with Jack Klugman.

Fast forward to 2010 and we hear that Comedy Central is moving the yet to be titled show along with Kevin Hart and Bill Burr. We hear the show is a half hour scripted comedy which is gearing up to be launched this fall and to be produced by 3Arts Entertainment.

Nate Jackson Crowned As The New Winner Of The Bay Area Black Comedy Competition!

The city famous for its award-winning coffee, Grunge music and fabled wet weather is over 800 miles north of Oakland, yet Seattle funnyman Nate Jackson, walked away with top honors at the 24th edition of The Bay Area Black Comedy Competition on April 17th at Oakland's Paramount Theatre like he was in his own backyard. Jackson now joins the groundbreaking event's famous alumni that include: Jamie Foxx, DL Hughley, Don "DC" Curry, Mike Epps, Katt Williams, Chris Tucker, Nick Cannon and Oakland's own Mark Curry, whose careers got that all important first push at the landmark contest.

"The crowd gave it up to Nate," recounts Competition founder Tony Spires. "It was a quality field of nine seasoned professionals this year. Nate's focus and his energy were the difference. He was on fire instantly," Spires adds. Convinced that there is strength in numbers, Jackson, a seven-year comedy veteran, didn't come alone. The 26 year-old Jackson, a student of comedy, who also holds a bachelors of science degree in Organizational Communications, became the professor that night, as he taught a class on onstage shtick, as well as strategy.

An impressive 37 of Jackson's biggest fans flew, drove and trained from Washington's "Emerald City" to California's Golden Gate to pay their young prospect the highest honor and help cheer him on to victory. His enthusiastic clan included his parents, along with a varied assortment of friends and family. "Maybe that's why he felt so at home," Spires added. "He had his people in the house."

"My goal was to win. I just wanted to do what I knew I was capable of doing. I was determined to have the best set of my life. I left the rest in God's hands," comments Jackson. If Saturday, April 17th, 2010 was any indication, Nate Jackson just expanded his territory and his fan-base. "I couldn't believe it! I immediately got 80 congratulatory text messages from friends. My Facebook and Twitter were off the charts! I'm in great company, now. I feel like big things are going to happen for me!" exclaimed Jackson. There were a total of 9 Finalists from all over the country, many who had much more experience than the winner but Jackson didn't bow to seniority. Rounding out the top three spots were Memphis' Henry Coleman and Chicago's Marcus Combs.

"We celebrate our 25th Silver Anniversary in 2011 and I'm looking forward to discovering and presenting the next generation of stand-up comedians to the world-who often double as 'industry game-changers' like Jamie Foxx and Katt Williams," Spires touted.

The BABCCF, the pioneering event that is a precursor to TV shows like HBO's Def Comedy Jam and BET's Comic View, was emceed by 1995 champion comedian/actor Don "DC" Curry. Opening the festivities was the youth performing arts ensemble Vision's Kids, who performed their latest offering, "The Art Of Education," an inspiring musical message to save our youth.

The evening was kicked-off by Full Vision Arts Foundation and LA Jones & Associates' 6th Annual Inspired Artist Awards Ceremony and Reception. The ceremony honored outstanding members in the community who have achieved recognition-worthy status through service. On Friday, April 16th Full Vision Arts Foundation presented their 3rd Annual Youth Arts & Entertainment Forum, an open entertainment industry forum and youth showcase hosted by celebrity mentors: Don "DC" Curry, musician D'Wayne Wiggins, spoken word artist Ise Lyfe, Hip Hop producer Krushadelic, broadcaster Larry Chew, fashion guru Charleston Pierce and organizer Tony Spires. (Above photo-By Auintard Henderson) Check out the interview below with Nate after his win.

Toldja So! Martin Lawrence Confirms Bad Boys 3!

As we originally reported way back in August, it looks like Martin Lawrence confirmed to MTV News yesterday- Bad Boys 3 is officially on with Lawrence and Will Smith!

If you remember a couple of months ago, we placed a story stating that we heard Hollywood execs were trying their best to bring back Will Smith and Martin Lawrence for a third installment of the Bad Boys films action franchise.

Well, as of today's news it seems that we were right- officially. Lawrence confirmed that Columbia Pictures is under way with the new film, and we discovered they have commissioned writer Peter Craig to begin work on a new screenplay.

Also as Lawrence and Smith had hoped for it seems the studio is close to signing on Michael Bay (of Transformers fame) and producer Jerry Bruckheimer back on board, both who were involved in the previous two films.

The original Bad Boys release hit cinemas in 1995, grossing a conservative $141 million worldwide, while Bad Boys 2, the sequel released eight years later, was a global box office smash, taking profits of $273 million.

Will Smith Officially Agrees To Do Men In Black 3!

This morning we were contacted by several sources who all confirmed one thing; it looks like Will Smith is back for Men In Black 3.

We also discovered that even his old partner in the film Tommy Lee Jones- who many thought would never do anther MIB film again- is back too.

As rumors would have it, and as we discovered several months ago, Smith had agreed to do the film, but the only real uncertainty was with Jones. After many conversations with the studio execs many speculated that Josh Brolin was going to be a replacement.

At the moment, little is known about the plot of Men In Black 3, which Sony will be aiming to get into cinemas by May 30, 2011, but we imagine it’ll involve Agent Jay (Smith) and Kay (Jones) getting in way over their heads with some angry alien beasties.

We also hear that this film, like every other film hitting theaters now, will be in glorious 3D.

More as this story develops.

Chris Rock Agrees To New Remake Film Titled High And Low

At yesterday's press conference for the new film titled Death At A Funeral which stars Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence and Tracy Morgan (just to name a few) we discovered a news item from Chris Rock himself.

Rock stated that he has agreed to write and possibly star in a new screenplay, which we later discovered was intended for playwright David Mamet titled High and Low and would have Mike Nichols attached, who was brought on to direct.

We discovered that the film is another remake which is a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s acclaimed 1963 detective thriller High and Low, and follows a wealthy executive whose son has been kidnapped. He’s prepared to pay the ransom using funds he needs for a critical corporate buyout. But, before he can send the payment, he realizes the kidnappers have mistakenly abducted the child of his chauffeur and thus the decision becomes much more complicated.

Mamet was commissioned to pen the first draft of the screenplay more than ten years ago by then producer Martin Scorsese.

Rumors are flying around in the comedy world that comedian and actor Martin Lawrence is about to make a big splash; and that’s by going back on tour and preparing to do a concert film.

Now, even though this story has yet to be confirmed we do know that Lawrence just wrapped his Doin' Time Comedy Tour and we know that after wrapping up the tour in the smaller markets he is planning on launching the tour in the major markets, and POSSIBLY go overseas even though the trek to go overseas hasn’t panned out yet.

Big Momma's House 3 Casting Almost Complete & About To Film!

As expected, the cast for the new Martin Lawrence film, Big Momma's House 3 is just about complete.

We hear that joining Lawrence and Brandon T Jackson are actors Faizon Love, Emily Rios, Portia Doubleday and Michelle Ang.

As we reported a couple of weeks ago, Jackson (of Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief and the upcoming Lottery Ticket) joined the cast as Lawrence’s son and will also don the infamous fat suit. Jessica Lucas (of Cloverfield fame) also joined the cast in the third installment which is now titled Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son. So far, the actress who is noticeably absent from the casting is actress Nia Long who played Lawrence’s love interest in the previous films.

If you recall, the Big Momma’s House franchise is about an FBI agent who wears drag and goes undercover to crack certain cases.

As we stated weeks ago, Big Momma’s House 3 is about Big Momma (Lawrence) and Charmaine (Jackson) go undercover at an all-girls performing-arts school to unmask a murderer. Love will play Kurtis Kool, a school security guard and former Run-D.M.C. roadie who becomes smitten with Big Momma. Rios, Doubleday and Ang will play students at the school who befriend Jackson's character.

The film begins shooting this month in Atlanta at the private, all-girls Agnes Scott College.

We hear up next for Lawrence is the rest of his Doin' Time Comedy Tour which is about to hit the major markets, and the Sheneneh and Wanda film also starring Jamie Foxx in the female characters they developed for their respective television shows. We even hear that there is some even bigger news about to drop from Lawrence’s camp and as soon as we confirm we will release it, so stay tuned!

We just discovered that another Hollywood power couple, Husband-and-wife acting duo Tisha Campbell-Martin and Duane Martin have just landed new regular roles on two new comedy pilots: one is the new show from ABC's Wright vs. Wrong and the other is from NBC's Next, respectively.

Wright vs. Wrong also stars actress Debra Messing (of Will and Grace and The Starter Wife fame) as Evelyn Wright, a strong-minded, ambitious political personality who appears tough and espouses a right-wing agenda but behind the scenes is consumed by her foibles and flaws.

Campbell-Martin, will play Evelyn's stylist, who can't name the Vice President but knows all the Hollywood gossip.

The new show Next stars comedic actor Paul Reiser in the show which is also semi-autobiographical as a former television star and family man dealing with life's day-to-day conundrums.

Expect both shows to drop this fall.

*** Ah SKIT- It's Friday!***New Episode- Chris Rock's Crackers!

In 2004 Chris Rock and his writers from the Chris Rock Show wrote a parody version of OutKast’s “Hey Ya!,” their smash hit from the year before. The video for the parody was filmed but never released until now, thanks to the folks at World Star Hip Hop. We are not sure how Rock would feel about this being released now, but we can say that there are alot of feathers being ruffled now as many believe this to be racist. What do you think? Its just a joke right?

Lebron James Officially Joins New Comedy Film!

We just discovered that NBA superstar LeBron James looks like he is going to end up in a comedy film!

As we reported several months ago, it now seems that the new film titled Fantasy Basketball Camp, from Universal-Imagine (which is a new sports comedy to which James is attached), has even bigger news as it finally landed a director in Malcolm D. Lee (of The Best Man, Soul Men, Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins fame). Also, writer Peter Steinfeld has come aboard to write the new draft which we heard needed it. What’s even bigger news is the film was picked up to be produced by Brian Grazer.

The film Fantasy Basketball Camp centers on five men who come to Las Vegas to live out their fantasy by attending the LeBron James Adult Basketball Camp only to end up dragging James into their various life issues.

No word yet on who else will be joining the cast but we hear that calls are being placed to actors and some offers went out recently- but we can’t say to who-yet. Stay tuned to more info on this soon!

As we reported last issue as an exclusive interview with Deon Cole, Cole became one of the only African American writers of the Tonite Show when O'Brien took over the reins of the show.

As we all know by now, the show has shifted back to comedian Jay Leno and Conan was let go of his duties as the host, but word has leaked to numerous amount of outlets that Conan may jump back into late night talk with the FOX network.

Regardless of how that pans out, it looks like the Tour is going to hit Ireland, Finland, Canada, England and of course here in the United States.

EXCLUSIVE- The New Host Of 1st Amendment Is Sheryl Underwood!

As we reported several weeks ago, comedian Doug Williams, who is the co-creator and Executive Producer and former Host of the Martin Lawrence 1st Amendment Show on Starz, stepped aside as the Host of the show as it begins filming its fifth season.

At that same time, our sources disclosed that the show’s producers were thinking about replacing Williams with a new female host that would bring a different flavor to the show. Today we found out what that flavor is as our sources have told us that the NEW host of the show is comedian Sheryl Underwood!

Underwood, a former host of BET’s Comic View and current radio personality of the Tom Joyner Morning Show and The FOXXhole, is not unfamiliar to hosting and is expected to bring a different spin to the show.

Anyway, the Martin Lawrence 1st Amendment Show is one of the highest rated shows on the Starz Network and has been climbing in the ratings every year since its debut. No official word from the network of Underwood being named as the host, but we will let you know as soon as we find out!

Anyway, at this tribute we got a chance to talk to him about the event and we also got a couple of more things from him- check it out!

Jamie Foxx Lands New Sketch Comedy Show At The FOX Network!

According to the Hollywood Reporter, we just discovered that Jamie Foxx has teamed up with comedic actor Affion Crockett for a new urban-flavored sketch-comedy show, which will air on the FOX network.

FOX has ordered a pilot for an untitled project executive produced by Foxx and fellow "In Living Color" scribes, "MadTV" creators Fax Bahr and Adam Small, with "Wild 'N Out" alum Crockett attached.

According to the report, the pilot is the result of merging two projects. Foxx was looking to do a sketch-comedy series with an urban twist and paired with Bahr and Small to pitch the idea to Fox.

Separately, Sony TV-based Tantamount was working on a sketch-comedy project starring Crockett, probably best known for his spoofs of Russell Simmons, Kanye West, Chris Brown, Drake and Jay-Z. Crockett also was attached to co-write with Carl Jones, a producer on Sony's animated comedy "The Boondocks," on which Jones voiced characters alongside Crockett and also served as a producer.

After hearing both pitches, Fox Entertainment president Kevin Reilly proposed marrying the projects.

The combination landed at FtvS, with Foxx executive producing alongside Small, Bahr, Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum as well as Marcus King and Jaime Rucker King, Foxx's managers and producing partners at Foxx King Entertainment.

Jones is co-executive producing, with Crockett a producer. Small, Bahr, Jones and Crockett are writing.
Foxx, who co-created, produced and toplined "The Jamie Foxx Show," had another sketch-comedy show with Bahr and Small in development last year at MTV.

Small and Bahr's series credits also include "Chocolate News" and "Blue Collar TV."

Comedian & Actress Kym Whitley Lands On TV With Two Hot New Shows!

This time those same producers tackle schools in the new show titled School Pride, which is being billed as an Extreme School Makeover. Tracy Morgan Replaces Terrance Howard In New Film!

Ok, we can admit, this one ALMOST slipped past us; we just discovered that comedian and very popular actor Tracy Morgan is having a year to remember; Morgan just joined actress Juliette Binoche and they both are in final negotiations to join the ensemble cop drama titled Son of No One, being directed by Dito Montiel.

The film so far also stars Channing Tatum, who plays a young cop assigned to a precinct in the working class neighborhood where he grew up, with an old secret surfacing and threatening to destroy his life and family. Another interesting thing we discovered is that we also hear that actors Al Pacino, Ray Liotta, and Katie Holmes are also in the cast.

What makes this even MORE intriguing is that Morgan is taking over this role that was vacated by actor Terrance Howard, as he will play Vinnie, a friend of Tatum's.No word yet on why Howard left the project, but rumors from the cast say that once again it was a dispute between Howard the the producers, almost as in Iron Man 2. Of course, we can't confirm or deny these reports.

We also hear that the film begins shooting in New York next week.

A Moment In Comedy History With... Reginald Hudlin!

Here is the first clip of a new series titled "A Moment In Comedy History With..." where we will examine major points in comedy history that the media didn't cover or something that may have been overlooked. This new series will look at what was overlooked or passed over.

Here is an interview with Director, writer, and producer Reginald Hudlin who was the original creator, writer and director (his brother Warrington was the film's Producer) of the House Party film.

In case you are unaware, Hudlin’s film House Party was originally a thesis for school he made while attending Harvard and the short thesis ended up as a feature film that was released in 1990.

The feature film ended up as an instant classis while also launching the careers of Kid & Play, Martin Lawrence, Tisha Campbell-Martin, Robin Harris, A J Johnson, Darryl “Chill” Mitchell, Full Force, and many others.

We got a chance to sit down with Hudlin to discuss the film (since it is the 20 year anniversary of the release of House Party) and we discovered lots of interesting things that occurred in the development of the film- especially how Will Smith almost landed in the film! Imagine that!

Check out the interview!

‘Laverne & Shirley’ Remake To Be Written By Jamie Foxx!

Word has started to spread about the new Jamie Foxx project because of a TV Guide report that the comedian, musician and actor is supposedly said to be writing a script for a big screen adaptation of TV’s Laverne & Shirley with the show’s co-creator, Garry Marshall.

We hear that it will be a different take, more of a modern day scenario on how they came up on the streets during difficult times. We hear that the Laverne character would be this very tough girl with a big ‘L’ tattooed on her arm.

Marshall is looking at Jennifer Garner for the role of Laverne and Jessica Biel for the part of Shirley. He directed both actresses as well as Foxx in romantic comedy Valentine’s Day.

If you remember the old series on ABC, Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams played the roles in the original series.

According to our sources Foxx did agree to write the script but is bogged down with several other projects from writing a new album, to several new films including writing the new film he writing with Martin Lawrence titled Sheneneh and Wanda from Screen Gems. So, we are not too sure about the time table of this project as it seems Foxx will be extremely busy for the next several years.

We also are well aware of Murphy pulling out of the new Ocean’s Eleven comedic remake that has recently cast Ben Stiller in the lead role, which also changed its name from Trump Tower to Tower Heist. But we bet you didn’t see this coming; Murphy is set to star in a new romantic comedy, a la Boomerang! That’s right, we discovered through our sources that Murphy is planning on starring in the new film tentatively titled Adam and Eve: The First Love Story where Murphy will play the lead role.

Is Miguel Nunez Jr. Set To Play Tiger Woods?!

Is this a coincidence or what? We heard that Spike TV ordered a single-camera pilot television project titled Back Nine, starring John Schneider (formerly of The Dukes of Hazzard fame) as Ronnie Barnes, a has-been former US Open champ who travels the US competing in small-time tournaments in hopes of qualifying for the PGA Tour.

What really makes this story interesting is that traveling with Ronnie is Tiger, his sex-addicted caddy and comedic actor Miguel Nunez is taking on the role.

Jason Filardi and Mark Perez are writing the project as well as direct the pilot and executive produce with John Lynch. Spike TV originally green lit the Back Nine script a year ago with the sex-addicted character named Tiger as part of the plot early on, obviously without having any indication of what was going to happen to the real Tiger Woods despite any of the rumors you may have heard.

Jamie Foxx To Play A Villain In His New Role!

Our sources today have disclosed to us that Jamie Foxx is about to sign on in another film, but this time is he going down the same path that Denzel Washington did as a villain named Alonzo in the film Training Day? Well, the simple answer is yes.

We have learned that Foxx is about to sign to play a villain in the new film titled Kane & Lynch: Dead Men which is another video game adapted film.

We hear that actor Bruce Willis has already signed on to the project as Kane, a death row inmate who is sprung from jail to recover a pinched fortune. It’s a task that he must complete along with a schizophrenic killer called Lynch, which is the role being offered to Foxx.

The difference of any other big screen adaption from a video game is that this film is bringing two well known actors as leading roles. Expectations are about to be pretty high for this action drama.

We also hear relatively unknown scribe Kyle Ward has written the script (he’s also signed on for Hitman 2), and no word has been set yet for a release date.
