It's Official! Humor Mill Comedy Awards Coming Soon!

The Humor Mill Magazine today has officially announced that it will be presenting the First Annual Humor Mill Awards, which seek to honor the numerous African American men and women who have contributed to the comedy art form both in front of and behind the cameras. "For so many years, there has been relatively little formal recognition of African American people as a whole in entertainment and in comedy in particular. It is time that we honor those who deserve to be honored," states Humor Mill Publisher and Chief Executive Officer Frank Holder. "We felt that a platform like this was the right thing to do." As the first Award show of its type, it is expected that the event will garner a great deal of interest.

Appealing to a multicultural audience, the Humor Mill Awards intends to launch a comprehensive national advertising and marketing campaign via the internet, TV and radio.

Covering a wide range of categories for nominees including television, cable, concert performance and film, the First Annual Humor Mill Awards promises to be an exciting as well as unique black tie event.

Eddie Murphy Out Of Trump Heist- Ben Stiller In

A couple of months ago, we first reported that there is going to be a “black” or “urban” version of the very popular film Ocean’s Eleven.

This film would have followed another recent remake that recently starred actors George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and the late Bernie Mac (just to name a few).

Anyway, there is some new breaking news; and this will surprise you.

We just discovered the lead role of the film that had Eddie Murphy set to star in is now with a new leading man as Murphy has bowed out of the project. He was replaced by comedic actor Ben Stiller.

The film also was to be directed by Brett Ratner and also was set to star Chris Rock and Chris Tucker. As of this writing the film is drastically changing with the addition of Stiller to the cast. A new script will be written and will likely have a different feel than previously intended. No word yet if Rock or Tucker is pulling out, but there is several indications that this will happen.

The new version of the film was set to be about a group of con-men who devise a plan to swindle the residents of New York's upscale Trump Tower, where they also work. The working title of the film was to be titled Trump Heist, but that name has also changed to Tower Heist.

Anyway, we will have more info on this as it develops.

Codeblack Entertainment & Shaq's Comedy Jam The New Kings Of Comedy!

We just received confirmation that this past weekend’s Shaq’s NBA All -Star Comedy Jam in Dallas produced by Codeblack Entertainment generated the highest 2 day gross ticket sales for an urban comedy show since The Original Kings of Comedy which began its huge run in the 1995.

So far, the Original Kings Of Comedy Tour is the highest grossing comedy tour of all time, but that window looks like it’s shrinking quickly. As we all know, the Kings featured Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley, Cedric The Entertainer, and the late Bernie Mac.

Why do we say that? Well, the two day gross for All Star Jam was $880,676.00, and this was for just TWO days. We should also note here that the show would have crossed 1 million dollars if it had not been for the snow as Dallas was hit with a snow storm on Thursday and the storm dampened ticket sales.

But with the projected numbers that has been produced form this past weekend, ASJC is on its way to become the next Kings of Comedy franchise.

We also discovered that Codeblack Entertainment is planning a fall comedy tour of about 15-20 dates across the country, and also plans for another huge comedy show for Super Bowl weekend next year, and NBA All Star Weekend which is in Los Angeles.

In case you missed it the two day comedy shows featured comedians Mo’Nique, Mike Epps, DeRay Davis, Kevin Hart, Bruce Bruce, George Wilborn, Paul Mooney, Corey Holcomb, Michael Blackson, and Red Grant, not to mention all of the surprise guests.

Stay tuned for more as we will have some backstage access for you from the show and more!

Kevin Hart Filming ANOTHER Stand Up Special!

We discovered from a very reliable source that comedian Kevin Hart is about to film ANOTHER stand up special next month for Codeblack Entertainment!

Last year Kevin Hart filmed a I'm A Grown Little Man for cable television and the special was one of the highest rated specials for cable. This year we hear that Hart is in plans to pull it off again, and this time it looks like the show will be filmed in Cleveland.

No official word from Hart's camp on what the new show will be titled or what network the show will be on but it would be safe to assume that since Codeblack Entertainment has The Shaq Comedy All Stars Comedy Jam on the Showtime network it might just land there.

Either way, its a good look for Hart as he is in the midst of selling out shows all across the country.

NBA All Star Comedy Weekend Wrap Up

The NBA All Star Weekend competition did not prove to be as full of excitement as in years past, especially the Slam Dunk competition. However, the excitement and hype for the one of the most anticipated shows of the weekend fell on the shoulders of The Katt Williams Experience which never took place.

Due to the enormous amounts of complaints that we have received from the fans in Dallas, we would have to say that comedian Katt Williams’ no show for The Katt Williams experience STILL has folks talking.

But not to be lost in all of the drama of Katt Williams, Codeblack Entertainment still produced a duo comedy show that kicked off the weekend despite the turbulent start with the inclement weather. The Shaq’s Comedy All Stars shows both were sold out, as they featured comedians Mo’Nique, Mike Epps, DeRay Davis, Kevin Hart, Bruce Bruce, George Wilborn, Paul Mooney, Corey Holcomb, Michael Blackson, Red Grant just to name a few.

There was another comedy show at the Majestic Theater that featured Bill Bellamy, Chris Spencer, Aries, Spears, Jay Lamont, and Derek Ellis. Once again, due to those same weather conditions Jay Lamont and Aries SPears didnt make it. There were two scheduled shows, and because of the no-shows, the comics who did show up gave the audience extra time on stage.

Stay tuned for a full detailed report of the weekend, including exclusive pictures, behind-the scenes videos and more!
