Barbershop 3 Finally Gets A Green Light!

We just discovered from our sources that it looks like the long rumored film Barbershop 3 is finally moving forward. There has been no official word from the studio, but our sources tell us that the film is in the works. As of this writing no one –including Ice Cube and Cedric The Entertainer- has been attached to the film as of yet, and we are not sure if there is a scrip yet, but we do know that the studio has expressed extreme interest in bringing back the entire cast for the film, and has finally gave the film the green light.

In case you missed the two previous films made in 2002 and 2004, the Barbershop films are basically about a day in the life of a barbershop on the south side of Chicago. The lead character Calvin (portrayed by Ice Cube), inherits the struggling business from his deceased father, views the shop as nothing but a burden and waste of his time. After selling the shop to a local loan shark, Calvin slowly begins to see his father's vision and legacy and struggles with the notion that he just sold it out. The barbershop is filled with characters who share their stories, jokes, trials and tribulations.

In the shop there is Eddie (Cedric The Entertainer), an old barber with strong opinions and no customers. Jimmy (Sean Patrick Thomas) is a highly educated barber with a superiority complex who can't stand Isaac (Troy Garrity), the new, white barber who just wants a shot at cutting some hair. Ricky (Michael Ealy) is an ex-con with two strikes against him and is desperately trying to stay straight. Terri (Eve) is a hard-edged woman who can't seem to leave her two-timing boyfriend. And lastly there's Dinka (Leonard Earl Howze), a fellow barber who is madly in love with Terri but doesn't get the time of day.

NBC Takes A Leap With New Urban Comedy Series!

We hear that the NBC Network is about to stock up with more comedy on their slate to assist in the Jay Leno sweepstakes, and their new gamble is now in the urban field. Word has it that actor Don Cheadle (of Crash and The Ocean 11 films) and Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder were recently tapped to head up a new half-hour comedy series about brothers who reunite after a long dispute to open a private security company to their own dismay. The laughter will be based upon how the brothers interact with each other as the story line develops. McGruder will write for the show and be an Executive Producer along with Cheadle, and Universal is Producing the show. No word yet on who will portray the other brother for the show.

We are not sure what this means for FOX’s new sitcom Brothers that stars Michael Strahan and Daryl “Chill” Mitchell, meaning if two urban show about brothers can coexist, but hopefully both shows will be around so we can talk about it.

Up next for Cheadle is the very much anticipated films Iron Man 2, The Avengers and Brooklyn's Finest and McGruder is currently taping and putting the finishing touches on a new season of The Boondocks.

The Janky Promoters Finally Opens To A Very Limited Release

We just got word that the new film from Ice Cube and Mike Epps, one of the most anticipated comedy films of the year titled Janky Promoters, was finally released- and it slipped right past us BECAUSE the studio released it with a very limited theater run. The studio, Third Rail Releasing, didn’t expect the very limited release and made very many moves to get it released theatrically so it wouldn’t go straight to the DVD shelves. As you may already know, the film had its release date moved at least three times- and that’s just the amount of times we know of.

The film also stars Young Jeezy, Lahmard Tate, Julio Oscar Mechoso, Tamala Jones, "Lil' JJ" James Lewis, Glenn Plummer, and Juanita Jennings as it follows the shenanigans of a pair of shady concert promoters (Cube and Epps), self-described "Modesto's finest," who get in over their heads when they get a shot at booking a big-name hip-hop act. As with any film starring Epps and Cube, complications come in the form of a pot-growing neighborhood nemesis named Mondo and Cube's character's son (Nickelodeon star Little JJ), who is under contract with the old man. From this point on there are many similarities to many of their past films, but we will let you be the judge. Check out the film in a very limited release.

Rick James Biopic Coming To Life As A Feature Film, Will It Star Terrence Howard?

Today we discovered that another biopic is in the works as a feature film, and this time the film will be about R&B icon, Rick James. As we all know, James was an extremely popular R&B and funk singer in the late 1970s and 1980s, scoring four #1 hits on the U.S. R&B charts. Among his best-known songs are "Superfreak" and "You and I".

In addition to his music, he gained notoriety for his wild lifestyle: later in life, James' drug abuse led to widely publicized legal problems.

All of this is said to be documented in the upcoming film, and we discovered this news from James' daughter Ty James.

We even heard that there are discussions with actor Terrence Howard (of Hustle & Flow fame) to play the lead role but nothing has been finalized yet. For more information about the film check back here as we will broadcast the entire interview on Humor Mill TV shortly.

BET Brings The Game Back For Overtime!

According to the cast of the former CW TV show, The Game, it looks like what we reported several weeks ago has finally come to pass. It seems that The BET Network has stepped up to save the show and picked up the show from the CW network to produce and broadcast a fourth season of the show. As of this writing, we hear that the entire cast of the show including Tia Mowry, Pooch Hall and Wendy Raquel Robinson are all being flown to Atlanta to commence shooting the series.

We hear that since the entire cast was on board for a fourth season, BET and CBS Television Studios were able to hammer out a lower, cable-appropriate licensing fee with which new episodes could be produced.

According to our source, the idea of BET stepping forward and saving The Game actually came from the show's cast.

After contacting BET, they have neither confirmed or denied this report. More info as this story develops.

Our sources have told us that actor Keith Robinson is definitely one to watch out for in the next couple of months. Why do we say that, you ask? Well, we hear that Robinson, probably best known for his role in Dreamgirls (The Jamie Foxx, Eddie Murphy, Jennifer Hudson film) and This Christmas (the Chris Brown, Idris Elba, Laz Alonso lead film) is about to switch it up a little bit and join the ranks of actor- turned- singer. As we all witnessed in Dreamgirls, Robinson can sing, and we are about to see him show off his skills again as he is about to drop a new album yet to be titled.

Robinson is gearing up to release such future hits like “DJ Lady” and “Gurl” and we hear that he is about drop the album soon.

Robinson is not going to let you forget that he is also an actor, as he is about to drop several new films such as Dear John, When The Lights Go Out, Caught On Tape and Hopelessly in June. All of these films are scheduled to drop soon.
