Will Packer Moves Forward With Stomp The Yard 2

We just discovered that Director and Producer Will Packer has begun pre-production on his new film Stomp The Yard 2, and the film starts shooting in October.

In this sequel we also discovered that the cast from the previous film- Columbus Short, Meagan Good, Ne-Yo, Brian White, Laz Alonso and Darrin Henson- are all expected to participate (along with a couple of new additions and a new story line) but featured as cameos in this film.

No word yet on what this film will be about, but we will have that info soon.

Missed the original film? Stomp The Yard, which debuted in 2007, was initially about a troubled 19-year-old street dancer from Los Angeles, who after the death of his younger brother, is able to bypass juvenile hall by enrolling in the historically black college named Truth University in Atlanta, Georgia. But his efforts to get an education and woo the girl he likes are sidelined when he is courted by the top two campus fraternities, both of which want and need his fierce street-style dance moves to win the highly coveted national step show competition.

Steve Harvey's Book Gets A Film Role

It looks like Steve Harvey is still making some waves with his relationship book, Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man. It seems that Producer/DirectorWill Packer and Screen Gems thinks it will make a good film and approached Harvey about turning it into a film, and they are moving forward with the project.

In case you haven’t heard, Harvey wrote the book Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man as a book of advice for women seeking to better understand their male counterparts, an exercise inspired by a segment on Harvey's syndicated morning radio show.

We hear that Screen Gems is currently on the look out for writers for the new comedy that will revolve around an ensemble cast.

Chris Rock's New Trailer For His Documentary Film

If you remember we reported several months ago comedic actor Chris Rock is taking a new venture- a new film titled Good Hair, to the big screen. Looks like Rock finally finished his documentary that examines the cultural pressures that forces black women into expensive, often painful methods to care for their hair. Rock said he first got the idea to explore the subject during a tour stop in Atlanta in the mid-1990s, when he came across a glitzy convention for black stylists known as the Bronner Brothers Hair Show.

The film follows Rock from the Bronner brothers show to neighborhood salons, businesses dealing in hair-care products and the streets of India, where the hair weave industry is rooted.

Rock recently screened the film at the Sundance Film Festival where it was received with an enthusiastic reception, bolstering his hopes that it can find a broad audience. Good Hair will be released in October in theaters.

Here is the trailer for the new film.

In case you didn’t know, NBC has announced that the new Jay Leno Show, set to air at the coveted 10PM slot Monday thru Friday, will feature Hughley and a cast of others as people on-the-street as comedy correspondents. Hughley will join comedians Mikey Day, Rachael Harris, Jim Norton, The Dan Band and NBC Nightly News’ Brian Williams to partake in news-based comedy segments.

If you were thinking that the show will be similar to Leno’s The Tonite Show, we hear that the format will be changed to include more comedy segments and comedy skits. Guests will be interviewed at the desk a la The Tonight Show, but the format will be shifted around so that there is a greater emphasis on comedy even though the desk will still be there and Leno will still be interviewing guests.

Rapper Bow Wow Joins New Ice Cube Comedy Film

Variety has confirmed a story that we told you about several months ago; it seems that director Ice Cube is back in the saddle with his new comedy film titled Lottery Ticket which we hear is going to star rapper Bow Wow. Several months ago we heard that the producers were looking at Tracy Morgan (who they later decided was too old for the part) and maybe even Brandon T. Jackson. Our sources say that the producers of the project Alcon Entertainment (Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove) along with Evolution partners Mark Burg,Oren Koules and Matt Alvarez of Ice Cube's production company, Cube Vision, decided to lean another way instead of the normal route of hiring an up- and-comer comedian as in the past.

The film Lottery Ticket revolves around a young man, portrayed by Bow Wow, living in the projects who has to survive a three-day weekend after his opportunistic neighbors find out he's holding a winning lottery ticket worth $350 million. The film will be directed by music video pro Erik White, who will make his feature directorial debut on the project, which is set to begin production in Atlanta in October.
