DL Hughley Joins Jay Leno Show!

We just discovered that comedian DL Hughley will not only be working as a correspondent for CNN, but he was also recently added to the new Jay Leno Show this fall.

In case you didn’t know, NBC has announced that the new Jay Leno Show, set to air at the coveted 10PM slot Monday thru Friday, will feature Hughley and a cast of others as people on-the-street as comedy correspondents. Hughley will join comedians Mikey Day, Rachael Harris, Jim Norton, The Dan Band and NBC Nightly News’ Brian Williams to partake in news-based comedy segments.

If you were thinking that the show will be similar to Leno’s The Tonite Show, we hear that the format will be changed to include more comedy segments and comedy skits. Guests will be interviewed at the desk a la The Tonight Show, but the format will be shifted around so that there is a greater emphasis on comedy even though the desk will still be there and Leno will still be interviewing guests.

The new show is set to debut September 14th.

Rapper Bow Wow Joins New Ice Cube Comedy Film

Variety has confirmed a story that we told you about several months ago; it seems that director Ice Cube is back in the saddle with his new comedy film titled Lottery Ticket which we hear is going to star rapper Bow Wow. Several months ago we heard that the producers were looking at Tracy Morgan (who they later decided was too old for the part) and maybe even Brandon T. Jackson. Our sources say that the producers of the project Alcon Entertainment (Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove) along with Evolution partners Mark Burg,Oren Koules and Matt Alvarez of Ice Cube's production company, Cube Vision, decided to lean another way instead of the normal route of hiring an up- and-comer comedian as in the past.

The film Lottery Ticket revolves around a young man, portrayed by Bow Wow, living in the projects who has to survive a three-day weekend after his opportunistic neighbors find out he's holding a winning lottery ticket worth $350 million. The film will be directed by music video pro Erik White, who will make his feature directorial debut on the project, which is set to begin production in Atlanta in October.

New Urban 3-D Animation Series Titled "Da Jammies" Launches!

Veteran television producer Ralph Farquhar and production partner Dwayne Corbitt of FarCor Studios recently announced a pact with distributor TF1 International for overseas distribution of their latest project Da Jammies, a new 3D animated music series, to the animation industry and fans during a panel presentation at the 2009 Comic-Con convention. TF1 will launch the series at the next MIPCOM and MIPCOM Junior World Entertainment Content Market in Cannes, France held October 3 – 9, 2009.

The producer of such Disney hits as The Proud Family and Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior, Farquhar’s ground-breaking new animated sitcom was developed in partnership with Toon Farm, LLC and is set to redefine the genre with its fresh new approach to quality urban family programming.

Combining hip-hop dance, music and fashion in a way never before seen in animation, Da Jammies follows five diverse ‘tweens from the suburbs who attend a performing arts middle school. Novelist, Dolla, MoMo, Seven and LaLa study singing, dancing and music in hopes of one day achieving their dreams of superstardom – and learn big life lessons along the way. Da Jammies tackles the sometimes difficult life lessons of growing up today, yet never loses its fun, engaging approach.

“The whole concept of urban family entertainment that reflects the lifestyle and musical tastes of multicultural families has been largely ignored by the industry,” said executive producer Farquhar. "We're programming for an underserved audience, armed with beats and stories that the entire family can sit down and enjoy together.”
Annabel Bighetti, Senior Executive VP Sales and Acquisitions for TF1 International stated, “We’re thrilled to offer to the international market this new 3D animation series about multicultural kids attending a performing arts middle school, who sing, dance, rap and dream of becoming famous.”

Domestically, the studio is in negotiations with several networks to air the 13-episode series. Viewers can log onto http://www.4kids.tv/da-jammies to watch a complete episode, give feedback and cast their votes to see Da Jammies on the CW 4 Kids programming lineup.

Da Jammies was developed by Ralph Farquhar and Dwayne Corbitt for FarCor Studios, created by Aulsondro “Novelist” Hamilton and William “Dolla” Chapman II and produced by Kathleen Zuelch.

Late Nite's New Urban Look Coming Soon!

In case you haven’t heard the news, the Jay Leno Show set to premiere on NBC at 10 PM Monday thru Friday every night is not the only thing new this fall. This fall it looks like there will be a new crop of late night talk shows set to premiere similar to the year when The Orlando Jones Show launched on FX, or when Magic Johnson launched his talk show titled The Magic Hour and when the Keenan Ivory Wayans Show (Hosted by Wayans) and VIBE Magazine’s late night talk show (Hosted by comedian Chris Spencer then comedian Sinbad) all aired at the same time in 1998.

Well, this year it looks like there is a new crop of comics set to launch a new late night talker in the fall. First up is the George Lopez show titled Lopez Tonight, set to be broadcast on TBS with a launch date of Nov. 9th. Lopez's show will air weeknights at 11PM and will air a half-hour earlier than The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien and Late Show With David Letterman, and is strategically placed to begin as the new Jay Leno Show ends its national broadcast.

The next late night talker is from comedian Wanda Sykes, with her own show titled The Wanda Sykes Show, launches her own style of weekly talk show on Nov. 7th on FOX.

Finally, there is the show from BET titled The Mo’Nique Show hosted by the comedian and actress Mo’Nique. The show, beginning production in the next month or so, will air on BET this fall and will be set to air Monday thru Friday. No time yet set for when the show will be broadcast.

Hopefully this will not be a repeat of 1998 when all of the shows that year were cancelled because of weak ratings, or because of celebrity boycotts, which resulted in weak ratings for some shows. Anyway, one thing is for certain; we will be watching!

Katt Williams Cleared Of Gun Charge!

We have just discovered that comedian Katt Williams no longer has gun charges to worry about. The two weapons possession charges he faced in New York City have been rejected by the D.A. because of insufficient evidence. the charges -- filed against Katt back in November after cops allegedly noticed two guns in his car -- were dismissed because the D.A. wouldn't be able to prove them beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
