Martin Lawrence Breaks Out With His Own Animated Series & More!

News is breaking out all over the internet of what we reported several months ago about Martin Lawrence developing an animated series for the FOX network. As we originally reported the show is based on his experiences growing up in Washington D.C. and Prince George's County, MD.

Today the Hollywood Reporter also confirmed that the show will follow the adventures of 13-year-old Martin as he comes of age in the D.C. area. (Does Everybody Hates Chris come to mind here?)

Anyway, the show is going to be produced by 20th Century Fox TV and written by Rodney Barnes, who was a co-executive producer of 'Til Death, Everybody Hates Chris and the animated The Boondocks. Barnes, like Martin, grew up in Maryland.

But that’s not all; it looks like his production company Runtelldat Productions has several other projects up it’s sleeve- one is a single-camera series for the Starz Network that revolves around an interracial family. The other show a multi-camera family comedy set at a funeral home that is not yet picked up by any network.

The inter-racial show is about a white guy from a trailer park who marries a well-to-do black woman. It's based on the real-life experiences of comedian Gary Owen, the only white comedian to host BET's Comic View and a featured comic on the Starz program Martin Lawrence Presents 1st Amendment Stand-Up.

Stay tuned for more on this shortly.

Codeblack About To Launch New Comedy Series

Our sources have discovered that Codeblack Entertainment is jumping into the comedy game heavily. Here is what we have discovered; besides the new comedy series currently on Showtime titled The All Star Comedy Jam hosted by Cedric The Entertainer, and the filming of the second installment of the series to be filmed at the upcoming 13th annual American Black Film Festival, we have heard that Codeblack is looking to launch a 10 episode comedy series that will be 30 minute specials highlighting fresh new comedy faces. No word yet on what network it will debut on, but our money is that there is a good shot of it debuting on Showtime.

Codeblack teamed up with basketball legend Shaquille O'Neal to present the All-Star Comedy Jam series. The series recaptures the spirit of past successful franchises like The Kings of Comedy series, and features some of today's hottest urban comics. It also provides the up-and-coming comedians with an opportunity to showcase their creativity and perform alongside the stalwarts of comedy.

It looks like there is FINALLY a cell phone application from someone in the urban comedy world, and that person is comedian and actor Katt Williams. Katt is the first comedian to launch a cell phone application ( for the very popular Iphone) that will deliver his comedy from his stand-up specials and will also include funny catch phrases, to full clips, to the latest Katt Williams comedy news. No word yet if it will include any of his songs from his album that was supposed to drop several months ago but was pushed back. A Ghostbusters 3 Update!

As we previously reported several months back, Ghostbusters 3 is moving forward. Well, recently we were able to get some more info pertaining to the film, and a little more than what the Los Angeles Times recently reported.

First, let’s get you up to speed; Dan Aykroyd recently spilled the news that the film was moving forward and that Signourney Weaver is apparently on board. Weaver will be joining the cast of Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson.

The other news item that was recently released was the fact that while the Producers intend to bring back the old characters, they intend to introduce new characters to the team, basically a “new generation.” Aykroyd also revealed that the characters he would like to see join the team may be female members, and two actresses he likes in particular are Alyssa Milano and Eliza Dushku.

The news we recently discovered is that the producers are also looking for one more comedian to join the team, someone new, and as we were told “fresh to the scene in the world of comedy.” That person is to be a counter-part to Ernie Hudson’s character, and maybe several more team members, as it looks like the new film will be almost ‘Star Trek-ish’, in a sense were there will be an Academy for cadets to learn how to be the next generation of Ghostbusters, as they learn how to use the neuron splitter and the inter-planet interceptor - new tools that will enable the cadets to slip from dimension to dimension.

Anyway we are left with the thought that there is going to be several new African-American comedian/actors that may be joining the cast, but no word yet on whom the part is intended for.

Nicole Murphy & Michael Strahan Engaged!

We have just discovered through some very reliable sources that Nicole Murphy (formerly the wife of Eddie Murphy) has just gotten engaged to ex NFL star Michael Strahan (who is also just recently divorced from his ex-wife Jean after a two year court battle and losing 15.3 Million to her in the settlement).

All of these events come as a surprise, due to reports that their relationship was in jeopardy because Strahan was caught using a tracking device on Nicole’s car. The same device was said to have been used on Strahan’s ex Jean while they were married. According to said reports, Strahan was apparently suspicious of an ongoing relationship between Murphy and Universal Records A&R executive Demetrius Spencer. The situation finally bubbled up when Murphy took her Range Rover in for servicing at a luxury dealer in California. The mechanics there reportedly found a tracking apparatus in the dashboard. Minutes after the discovery, Strahan allegedly barged into the garage yelling and screaming.

According to reports, following that incident, Murphy and Strahan called it quits. Or so it seemed. Now the couple is definitely back together and engaged, and we are working on finding out the wedding date which has not been set.
