Tyrese Gibson Holds Secret Meeting With Marvel Comics Icon Avi Arad!!!

Tyrese Gibson was spotted last night in Hollywood having dinner with Avi Arad, the Hollywood mega-producer and CEO of Marvel Studios, the company behind such blockbusters like IRON MAN, X-MEN, FANTASTIC FOUR, SPIDER-MAN, and the upcoming WOLVERINE. News of their meeting is apparently an air-tight secret and has all of Hollywood and the comic book world speculating. Gibson has been rumored to play LUKE CAGE, but what else does Marvel have in store for the star of the upcoming TRANSFORMERS 2: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN? Is it possible Tyrese will be THE BLACK PANTHER? Or another Marvel hero?

After digging into it myself, I found some potentially juicy news. Recently, Tyrese unveiled his new comic book MAYHEM at a party in Downtown Los Angeles that had both Hollywood and comic book elites in attendance. Confirmed at the event were Michael Bay, Taraji P. Henson, Tila Tiquila and many of the local comic book talents that included Jeff Katz, Chip Mosher, Mark Sable, Jonathan Davis, Scott Lobdell, Gary Phillips, Tone Rodriguez, Carey Percy, and Joe Keatinge, head of marketing at Image Comics where MAYHEM will be published.
Then I discovered on Twitter that Tyrese had tweeted about his dinner with Avi.
@Tyrese4real: “He said great art…he just said this is gonna be awesome… he loved the cover…”
And the tweets continue with, @Tyrese4real: “I learned sooooo much tonight… He was very insightful…There were secrets he shared…Advice he gave…Just amazing…”
And finally, @Tyrese4real: “Here’s the BEST PART…He signed the cover of my MAYHEM comic book, wrote [his] name and wrote [advice] ON MY COVER…Wow...Avi is the man!
So was this just a meeting of the minds? Is Avi going to produce MAYHEM the movie? Is Tyrese going to be the star of Marvel’s next blockbuster? Is Avi offering guidance on the creative direction of the MAYHEM comic? Does this mean the comic book world is embracing Tyrese? Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Director & Producer Preston Whitmore To Tackle New Comedy Film

We just discovered from Director and Producer Preston Whitmore (of This Christmas & Crossover fame) that his next project he will be tackling is a new comedy film titled Andrew Jones that will begin filming in July. So far, Whitmore revealed to us that actor/rapper Sticky Fingas will also be starring in the film.

There has been no official announcement of the other cast members of the film, but we think that LisaRaye may also be joining the film. We say that because Whitmore let a statement slip tonight during the Black Noir Magazine Celebration that he and LisaRaye attended tonight in Hollywood- and no, they did not arrive together nor are they a couple. They just took this picture together.

Stay tuned for an exclusive interview coming up with Whitmore for more.

BET Launches New Late Night Talk Show With Mo'Nique

We discovered this past week that Black Entertainment Television has decided to jump into the crowded late night fray with a new talk show spear-headed by comedian Mo’Nique, who recently had her nationally syndicated radio show cancelled.

Mo’Nique will be joining some stiff competition as she will be up against the new Wanda Sykes Show on the FOX network and the new George Lopez show set to launch on TBS. What will probably be the saving grace of the show is the coveted time slot of Mo’Nique’s show because if set to air earlier than either of the competition, she will not have to compete for audience. So far, it looks like Wanda’s show is set to premiere on Saturday night in place of the cancelled MadTV, and George Lopez will launch in the coveted 11:30 time slot weeknights.

Our thoughts about this news right now varies because we are thinking; is this show doomed before it has even begun? Why has it taken BET so long to launch a new late night show so many years after Arsenio Hall's Show, and why wait until now when the field is so crowded now? What do you think?

Confirmed- Everybody Hates Chris Over At The CW

As we first reported several weeks ago, it looks like Chris Rock has officially announced that he has planned to end the TV show Everybody Hates Chris, the show based on his early life after four seasons.

Everybody Hates Chris hasn't been picked up for a fifth season and the comedian plans to make it easy for bosses at the CW by ending the current season with a fitting finale.

As reported by several sites today, Terry Crews, who plays Rock's dad in the series, says, "Chris Rock didn't graduate high school and started comedy when he was, like, 17 years old. Our Chris (Tyler James Williams) is now a sophomore in high school, so the timing is lining up pretty well. Once he becomes a comedian, the show's over."

And Williams, who is currently pursuing a film course at New York University, admits he's happy with the ending of the show, which is unofficially planned for May 8.

Actor / Comedian Jon Lovitz Starts New Comedy Club In Hollywood

In what is sure to shake up the comedy scene in Hollywood, we have discovered that comedian and actor Jon Lovitz is starting up his own comedy club at Universal CityWalk in late May. Called The Jon Lovitz Comedy Club, it's his first venture into nightclub ownership. We wonder, is Lovitz tired of performing at The Laugh Factory where he is a staple of their club on almost any given night?

Anyway, the press release states that he'll perform regularly at the new 400-seat club and "play a leading role in booking a performance line-up that will blend veteran stars with comedy’s top newcomers.

Lovitz states that “This will be unlike anything anybody has ever experienced at a comedy club and it’s certain to be a smashing success. We’re offering great comedy, great food and an atmosphere of a tropical beach resort. It’s so real, the club’s indoors and I still got a tan."

As of this writing, we have asked if there would be any urban nights at the club and we have not heard any response yet from his management. Stay tuned.
